How to Choose a China Freight Forwarder: 7 Checks
Choosing a China freight forwarder comes down to proof you can verify. Ask for each item below and keep the answers in writing.
- Business licence
Ask for the registered company name in Chinese. Then check it on the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System (opens in a new tab), the official registry (the site is in Chinese).
- A real office
Ask for the address, office photos and a video call. A forwarder with nothing to show is a risk.
- An itemised quote
Ocean freight, origin charges and documents should be separate lines, with a validity date.
- The papers
Ask which papers you receive and when, including the bill of lading.
- Loading proof
Ask for photos, the carton count and the seal number at loading.
- Trade bodies
Membership of bodies such as FIATA (opens in a new tab) or CIFA is a plus. Ask to see proof, because it is not a guarantee.
- Clear limits
A good forwarder says what it does not do, such as destination clearance.

Do you offer air freight, door-to-door or DDP?
No. Al Fajar books FCL by sea and handles the China side: trucking, loading check, export papers and the China customs declaration. Clearance and delivery at the destination belong to your agent. Air freight needs an air-freight specialist.
Should I use a China freight forwarder if my supplier offers shipping?
Often yes. A supplier's quote may bundle charges, and the supplier controls the booking. With your own forwarder you see each line, choose the sailing and receive the papers directly. Ask your supplier to quote FOB so you can book your own forwarder.
